To be honest either one is in demand, we have a Hitler youth unit, you will probably have more RP opportunities there, and everyone loves some nice air support, which the SS has a bit of. I'd say Luftwaffe as it would be a second account and members tend to focus more of their attention on one of their accounts more than others, weather they mean to do so or not.

Well, it's all up to you really. Give a think about it and use the one you would be able to RP with the most. In all honesty you would be at a disadvantage with both of them. If you made a Luftwaffe character then you would be useless compared to Nathan and his squadron. I'd want to have a lot of CP already set aside for a good plane before I made an air force character. Also, do you know all the technical aspects of the plane? You would have to do a bit of research before making a pilot. Finding out how things work, etc. While if you made a Hitler Youth Character you would have a physical disadvantage compared to everyone else, due to you only being a small boy. So yeah; they both have downsides. But pick the one that sounds best to you.
I have to agree with Dan; Both ideas have extreme weak points, but some strong points too. In all honesty, you will never find a role to play on this website, where you have even attributes in both weaknesses and strengths.
For instance; Infantryman: They're best used when it comes to assaulting the enemy full-on, you can move between obstacles, get nitty-gritty with the enemy up close. You can even purchase armoured vehicles and a whole array of weaponry and units to use at your beck'n'call.
So the Infantryman is primarily one of the strongest units on this website, when it comes to fighting against a whole multitude of enemies. So they're pretty rounded roles to play.
However, their main weakness is enemy aircrafts - let's face it, if you've got a payload of bombs being dropped upon your head, you don't stand a great chance. Plus, even standard enemy spitfires could cause a lot of aggrovation, as their swooping assaults upon bulks of infantry (if gathered in one place or in the open) could be extremely deadly. When you think about it, the only real way to oppose enemy aircrafts, is by the use of a Flak-Gun, that cost 30CP upwards.
Pilot: Obviously, these guys are very strong, but also VERY limited to what they can purchase. So where they are magnificently strong in one aspect, they are extremely weak in another...
As Dan's mentioned above, you're probably better off saving up some money, before attempting to become a pilot. Although, when you sign up as a pilot, you do get a free Spitfire and side-arm as your standard handout. So straight away, you can take on quite a lot of battles as minor air-support or even attempt a dog-fight solo, in the airs above.
Either way, you do start off very strong as a Pilot, because you come equipped with a spitfire and side-arm; You can even progress to purchasing wingmen (more spitfires for your squadron) or even attempt to pilot a bomber? Can you image the amount of damage you can do on the battlefield, piloting a bomber to wreak devastation on the ground below?
But... There are massive weaknesses for the pilots, ranging from; If you're shot down in a hostile role play, it's a lose, lose situation for you, unless you have allies on the ground (Infantryman) to help get you out of crash situation. You could even die immediately, if you get shot out of the sky or have to attempt a crash-landing. So you can imagine just how daring you'll have to be, to battle as a Pilot.
Secondly, you wouldn't be able to purchase any Infantryman Weaponry (only side-arms) or Infantryman units/vehciles. As a pilot, you can only purchase aircrafts, maybe paratroopers and light-vehicles (so you can drop them into battle for your allies) and clothing or medical gear.
So immediately, you're very limited to what you can do. Plus, you need to know a lot of technical terms and abilities to pull off some really good posts as a Pilot during a battle... So it's a hard role to play, but a very strong one if you survive and pull it off.
There will be Naval and perhaps Paratrooper choices to choose from, when you sign-up, but for now the primary choices are Infantrymen, Pilots or neutral characters (Medics/Civilians). ~Danny

As an RPer of purely neutral characters, I find they are the most interesting. These people are, in a sense, playing a part in the war, even if they are not fighting. The medics heal both civilians AND soldiers; a priest or padre could be a source of guidance for a lost soul - including the soul of a fighter. Children were orphaned, and even killed in the war, some not even fully understanding what was going on. There were the mothers and fathers of soldiers, and the sisters and nieces and girlfriends, and all sorts of other people that the soldiers were fighting for. We also can't forget the empowerment of women, with iconic figures such as "Rosie the Riveter" coming to light.
So, even if you don't want to, you might even consider a neutral character if the weaknesses/strengths of the Hitler Youth and pilots don't appeal to you. I'm sorry if this is kind of off-topic, guys, but I'm writing up a post at the moment, and I'm a little scatterbrained with my muse.
