A Biggun Battle Thread!

Von Spekle has now been ruled out; Well and truly missing his turn.

I've had a real long think about this and I'm a little uncomfortable allowing Strumfelder to post after every Allied turn; As this essentially would give Strumfelder the capabilities of double posting every turn and I would personally find that unfair. Being granted double time every round, when the opposition are still playing by the standard time barrier.

I feel there is no exceptions for inactive members and neither will I bend the rules to accommodate someone the chance of double posting, when unfortunately, they've picked the wrong team-mates for the battle. This may come across very brass, but I hope my point of view is seen and allowing someone to double post, because two of their team-mates have decided to run, is simply bending the rules to keep someone in the game.

Von Spekle and Vlakte are still in the battle and can be taken prisoner. I'm approaching this whole situation with a zero tolerance approach, because I feel there can be no exceptions for one moment, putting yourself into a battle and come the next moment, disappearing. This entire situation is not Strumfelder's fault and I have spent a lot of time thinking about this, but either way I look at it, I'm not happy to grant someone the possibility of double posting every round. This whole situation was unforeseen and dramatically, it's become 1 vs 2, rather than 3 vs 2.

I can not compensate for team-members who may drop out of the battle and neither do I feel comfortable or see the logic in allowing someone to double post every round, when realisticly, the whole time barrier will become off balance. Not only that, but there is only so much each member can achieve within their time period of posting and allowing someone to double their time period, is simply not something I can and will allow happen. On the back of a couple of members dropping out of the battle.

Perhaps this could be a wise lesson, to entrust and choose your team-mates wisely, but I honestly can not allow a member to double post every round. This thread has turned out the way it has, simply because of two members falling out of the battle, but I can guarantee you, their characters are still capable of being taken prisoner or otherwise.

The only real compensation I can grant Strumfelder from this very unfortunate situation that has arised, is that I will be happy to accept your surrender/retreat out of the posting order if you feel you are unable to control such a large force and big situation by yourself, due to other people's inactivity.

I'm sure Steven and Patterson will understand, but I am happy to grant you an immediate retreating post out of the posting order, if you feel you wish to retreat from the battle during any point.

So this is the only real compensation I can give you, for the unfortunate events that have taken place, due to your team-mates disappearing and letting you down. This battle will continue like any other normal battle, only difference being, it's gone from 3 vs 2, simply to 1 vs 2.

Strumfelder ground the palm of his hand against his forehead, as only his mortars appeared to have actually fired! The next minute, a juggernaut of a tank burst through the hedge at the top, crushing the German corpses beneath its treads. Did these men have no respect!? It moved round, surrounded by American soldiers. The 88 made a feeble attempt at knocking it out, and Strumfelder hoped that both men had paid for their incompetence. The tank halted, before smoke suddenly appeared and the Americans disappeared. However the lack of heavy gunfire showed that they probably hadn’t moved further into the woodland.

The situation was going from bad to worse. He’d pull back for now, the attack was far too strong, and hopefully he could crush them in a nasty trap. He wouldn’t have long though. He looked down at the mortar crews, who still had several crates of rounds left. Twenty five rounds a minute, and two and a half cases worth per mortar. About two-hundred rounds...enough. “Mörser teams ein, zwei, und drei zu töten das Feuer, Gitterkoordinaten TY52450332, Feinde im geöffneten, benutzen alle vorhandene Munition. Strumfelder thought for a moment. He could pin down the infantry but he had to deal with the tank. The rockets on the immobilized halftrack could do that well, and the smoke would cover their actions. He had to also use the second halftracks rockets as well. Strumfelder moved to the edge of the concrete and called down to two soldiers huddled behind a tree, with a wounded man. They both hurried forward and saluted. Strumfelder nodded, then rapped the first note around a piece of rubble, before throwing it down. The racket of the mortars made it impossible to speak. One soldier picked it up from his feet and read it. Strumfelder pointed towards the halftrack near the mortars. The soldier nodded, saluted again and ran off. Strumfelder repeated the same action, but this time pointed to the halftrack, and at a man behind, huddled in a crater. The soldier also saluted and moved off.

“Kortig!” Strumfelder bellowed.“Wir sind verlassen!” The Corporal nodded, and crawled to the edge, lowering himself down. Strumfelder did the same, dropping down onto the concrete below, and then onto the grass. The mortars had nearly finished firing, and Strumfelder could hear the moans of the rockets as they were sent into the air. They would be out of here very soon. “Erhalten Sie diese Männer aus hier heraus, auf eine regelmäßige Art und Weise, mit einem geschwankten Rückzug. Vergessen Sie die Männer zum Norden. Wenn sie irgendeine Richtung haben, folgen sie unserem Beispiel.” He ordered his Corporal the man set off, and a few seconds later sporadic firing took hold as men covered each other’s back and pulled back. Drawing his pistol Strumfelder kept low and dashed over to the parked truck bristling with antenna. He moved around the back and stepped aboard facing the operator. “Anruf in einem Artillerieschlag, fokussiert um Rasterfeldhinweis TY65451012. 150mm, 10 Wellen von drei Oberteilen. Strumfelder moved over the cab wall and banged hard on it. The driver got the message and moved off. Through the open back doors, Strumfelder could see the mortars loading up to the halftrack, and then the vehicle move behind the watchtower, using another escape route. Soldiers started into a full retreat, with Kortig and the wound man in the halftrack providing covering fire with their MGs.

A sad day for Nazi Germany, but an even sadder one for the men that remained in the area.

The mod-mark will be up within the next couple of days;
This is mainly due to the fact I need to present all casualties, wounded, captures (including any battlefield equipment) and so forth. As well as editing and presenting these statistics to each divisional roster (extra needless work, but it has to be done).

Including CP handouts, promotional/demotional attributes, etc...

I do take Premium battles seriously and I want to do my hardest to keep it realistic, clean and statistic wise, 100% accurate. So give me a couple of days to go over every little detail, including any "Retatliation fire" or "movements" made and you'll have your closing mod-mark.

Strumfelder, without a supplied map, I’ve had to “guess” most of what you’ve provided me with in both your posted text and PM, so mistakes are inevitable with some of the moves you’ve made with some units. Just like to say, there’s little I can do if I have made a few mistakes in attempting to fathom out what you were trying to do…

Mortar Teams:
The mortar teams received their instructions successfully and opened fire immediately, panicking a little in the process, as the tank and enemy infantry were abundantly close to them and “See-able” through the thin sparse of trees littering the area before them.

The mortar teams opened fire, but their sporadic aim and haste in firing as many rounds as possible befell the enemy’s location in windswept drizzles, in other words, on and off target. None the less, this ironically had the enemy more suppressed than having direct aimed rounds falling onto their position and the Americans huddled within their current resorts of cover; More worried that if they moved, they would fall prey to one of the random shells.

“We’re getting hammered out here!”[/b] one of the soldiers cried out, before a lucky German mortar round imploded against the dirt two meter’s away from him, ripping shrapnel through the man’s torso, sending his body up off the ground two foot from the impact, before the smouldering corpse thumped back down against the dirt lifelessly.

The Americans continued to retaliate with fire, but kept their heads down more during the process, making their aim inaccurate and hasty during the periods they raised their heads for a shot. Although they were suppressed, their spirits and morale wasn’t broken, as a friendly tank to their rear roared into life with the on-board MG, spiralling tracer rounds after every dozen bullets off into the woodlands and with the company of two Sergeants (including Steven), none of them felt any resemblance of wanting to flee the situation.

“Ahhhhh!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!”[/b] the curdling screams cried out from behind Steven and the advancing party’s position, as yet another victim fell prey to the mortar fire. A few of the men glanced back, but didn’t look for too long, as half a mangled body writhed against the dirt beside the tank, yelling out in pain, but there was little anybody could do for the man in such a tight spot with heavy fire spiralling in both directions - Then, the cries in agony stopped.

A thunderous Bang! of metal erupted shortly after the agonising cries, as the Sherman tank took a mortar round to it’s rear, blowing a chunk of metal from out of the armour. The crew inside were temporarily stunned from the deafening noise and the MG stopped firing for a moment, as the crew regained composure. Thankfully, none of the crew harmed, as the mortar round wasn’t a direct hit.

(Southern/Northern Rockets) and Fire-Fight:

The orders scribbled on a piece of paper were passed down to the halftrack team, who could only make out a few of the coordinates from the scribbled writing made in haste. Adjusting the rockets, they fired three of them into the correct coordinates, but failed to read the next three coordinates, due to the scribbled handwriting and minor tears made from it being roughly strapped around a jagged rock.

Enormous flare looking sparks erupted from within the woodlands, as the rockets quickly darted overhead, down into enemy territory beyond the hedge. Not knowing whether to fire the last three rockets randomly or not, the team decided to save them and prematurely began shouting at the mortar teams to pack-up, they were retreating.

Whilst the several artillery cadets and few infantryman hastily packed up the gear, almost throwing it into the back of the halftrack, just wanting to get out of there, the fire-fight between the two sides in the woodlands continued to erupt. A few wounded cries yearning out from nearby, but unfortunately, no-one was able to tell if they were Allied or Axis…

During the time the mortar teams were quickly packing up their gear, Corporal Kortig followed out his orders and approached the half smouldering halftrack from a earlier battery of rockets. Barely able to get close enough to the halftrack, due to close enemy resistance, Corporal Kortig pulled together a few healthy men and yelled the following at them;

“Bedecken Sie mich! Ich komme, der Soldaten in die Halbspur verwundete!”
- Cover me! I'm getting that wounded soldier into the halftrack!

With that, the two soldiers opened fire onto the nearby American soldiers, allowing Corporal Kortig to quickly smooth his way to the wounded soldier and drag him back towards the rear end of the halftrack. Although the tank didn’t precisely detect their presence, a lot of the American infantry did, who was being fired at from their left flank due to the covering fire and the Americans popped off quick excessive rounds towards their locations - suppressing them.

Corporal Kortig did use his initiative however and managed to call over to a soldier huddled by the crater, not being shot at, who was able to make the minor sprint across to the halftrack. Placing the wounded soldier on the MG and ordering him to await opening fire, Corporal Kortig and a soldier made it their own business to adjust the rockets as best they could, but the mangled Halftrack seemed highly unstable with it’s rockets…

Firing the first rocket, as best they could, the rocket spiralled over the tank’s position and exploded directly into the hedge, causing everyone to flinch or duck from the close explosion. By now, the tank was more than aware of what was happening and it’s turret slowly began to turn towards the halftrack’s position. Quickly, Corporal Kortig yelled at the wounded man to just shoot! During this process, the second rocket was launched, but due to the damaged and unstable cage supporting the rockets, made it dip a lot lower than it should have and for a moment, Corporal Kortig held his breath as the rocket actually skimmed along the ground a mere several foot from the halftrack, but bounced up against the slope of a crater to impact the fuel dump’s fence, exploding directly just beside of the tank, instantly killing three American soldiers practically against the fence.

The explosion practically shifted the tank sideways, as shrapnel from the rocket tore into the armour, damaging the outside and further shaking up the crew within who were practically deafened. However, the rocket didn’t directly impact the tank it’s self, so the shrapnel damage didn’t fully puncture the tank’s chassis, but did kill a unsuspecting crew member within. A few gaping holes were torn into the tank’s armour and one crew-member was instantly killed as shrapnel punctured the skull.

Shaken up and deafened, the crew within the tank hesitated for a moment, but with their aim set, merely fired the tank’s cannon towards the halftrack and watched in awe as the round was just slightly off target, exploding against the dirt beside of the halftrack.

With a wavering nerve, Corporal Kortig yelled out to retreat and abandoned the halftrack, not wanting to risk another dodgy rocket that almost exploded several foot from themselves and neither did he fancy chancing his luck against a reloading tank cannon who already had them zeroed in. So immediately, Corporal Kortig sprinted like hell, further breaking troop morale as a few German soldiers decided to flee the moment they noticed the halftrack to the south reversing with the mortar teams packed up inside and Corporal Kortig abandoning the mangled halftrack.

The Artillery Strike was called in, but to cut a long story short, the Americans suffered a further 1 Deaths and 2 Wounded from behind lines. All of the rank Private.

Not all units on the map have been highlighted on escaping, as they’re still in the fog of war. Not seen.

You gained a big victory, knocking out and capturing an enemy 88, along with other pieces of enemy equipment and finally removing the presence of the Axis from within the area, gaining valuable ground. With still a good number of forces, vehicles and captured guns to hold down the area from any enemy counter-attacks.

You also successfully captured several surrendering enemy units, who after a few minutes of fighting, felt abandoned and decided to surrender against the odds. Including one enemy member unit (although inactive), still counts as capturing a member.

Axis Forces[/b] RETREAT!

You fought a good battle, started off well, but quickly went downhill the moment two Axis members became inactive. With a high communication breakdown and advancing enemy, taking initative of the weaknesses foreseen, your defences crumpled against the first push and immediately found yourselves being walked over.

However, Strumfelder pulled it back towards the end and managed to pull out, however, a lack of communication towards the rest of the men left a lot of moral broken soldiers surrendering, feeling betrayed and left for dead.

Had Kriegheld or even Von Spekle remained in the battle, your defences and fighting skills may have repelled the enemy presence. Bringing this battle to a different closure, after a further conflict of fighting.
