What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath?
German Army
Character History:
Born in 1896 in a small town on the outskirts of Berlin, Anton was raised in a healthy environment, with a good amount of wealth, an amazing family, and a great best friend. Anton's father, Wolfgang Ramsden, was a war hero and veteran of multiple Prussian wars. At the time of Anton's birth, Wolfgang was retiring from the military in order to start a family and help raise his children in a peaceful small town. He married Erika Schmidtz and settled down in a beautiful house and began to start up a family. The first and eldest son was Anton, born in 1896, followed by Adala born in 1901, and the last and youngest Reinhard born in 1903.
Anton and his family were of Prussian nobility, so to support his family, Wolfgang became a Prussian politician in 1895 and began to constantly be visiting Berlin. However, the man would not put his work before his family. Anton grew very fond of his father, more then even his mother. He bonded with him the most out of the three children, and often they spent the most time with each other. Adala was usually spending time with her mother anyway, and Reinhard grew fond of his mother when he was young and she was caring for him. Often, Wolfgang would take Anton hunting or horseback riding or even camping. Anton remembers his first kill. The deer startled as the shot rang out through the forest and knocked him off the forest. And then taking the deer out to their camping site and cooking him for dinner. Wolfgang taught Anton how to be man. How to be tough, grit, and powerful.
Every time the duo went out camping and sat by the camp fire just chatting, Wolfgang would decide to tell his son a story about the wars he had participated in. The battles he had fought, win or loss. Deep down, everyone knew it was destiny for the eldest son of the Ramsdens to join the military early on in his life and to serve with glory and victory. Anton believed himself to be the one who would serve the longest, the hardest, and to be the best. He had no idea what the world had in store for him.
Upon finishing his education at his home-schooling and at the local school, he began to attend military training at age 11 in 1907. After many vigorous years of training, Anton graduated. At the outbreak of World War I , Anton decided to join the Luftstreitkräfte, the "Imperial German Army Air Service", forerunner of the Luftwaffe. Anton thought he would be remembered forever in Prussian and Ramsden history, as one of the first to take the fight to the skies. In 1916, he began to serve in a fighter squadron with Manfred von Richthofen, better known as "The Red Baron." Anton was relatively young, and was far from being the best of the best. He admired the amazing pilot and hoped to one day become as skilled a fighter pilot as he had.
At the end of the war, Anton returned home to tell his family about all the great tales of victory and defeat of the war. His mother was so frightened that he putting his life in danger up there in the sky that she urged him to just put an end to it all and undergo training to become a politician in Berlin under his father. Anton denied without hesitation. He was no coward and he didn't wish to leave the German Air Force just because his mother was a little worried for him. He decided to move away and undergo training to improve his piloting skills while there was a time of peace.
The end of the Prussian era began with Adolf Hitler entered the fray, and Anton became a loyal follower. Hitler spoke of world conquest and the Aryan race and what not, and Anton began to agree. The German race had been the most powerful for such a long time, it was about time they took what they deserved. The entire world. Anton enlisted in the Luftwaffe, at the age of 40, he considered himself a war veteran now. He began to participate in many aerial bombings including the bombing of Warsaw, the bombing of Minsk and operations on the Eastern Front, and the Battle of Britain and operations on the Western Front. Overall, he was shaping up to be one of the next great pilots.
However, one day linked up with his old best friend from back home, who had become a pilot as well. Excited that his old friend would be serving underneath him, Anton began helping him with his training. There fourth combat mission together however, Anton's friend was shot down and killed in the Battle of Britain. Anton swore he would make the men who did pay one day, and that they would suffer greatly.
Military Rank:
- Oberfeldwebel (Flight Sergeant)
Writing Sample:
Oberfeldwebel Anton Ramsden felt so alone in the darkness, it was so chilling. All he could hear in the dead silence was the hums of his Messerschmitt "Spit Fighter's" engines as he flew in behind enemy lines on a top secret reconnaissance mission in the cover of night over Britain. The Battle of Britain had been a tough and grueling battle on everyone on both sides. He rubbed his eyes a bit as he grew tired. Suddenly a flash of light illuminated the night sky, and even worse, it was coming for him. Anti-Aircraft weaponry. How in the hell had they spotted him? The Germans must have these men in a choke hold if they are ready for combat 24/7. Anton banked left and avoided some of the bullets, but then two more AA guns started firing up bullets from behind and soon the Oberfeldwebel was got in a crossfire.
Anton though fast, he would have to get as far away from the British AA guns as fast as he could before he could even try to touch the plane down. As quickly as he could, he turned his plane around and shot forward, back towards the German lines as far as he could get. His breathing grew unsteady and he was sweating a little, but he kept his calm. Beneath him infantry units were scattering, presumably to capture him when he touched down. Anton angled himself and swooped down at the men, firing volleys of bullets into them, cutting some down and scaring off others. Anton regained a regular angle, but his plane was beginning to fly irregularly. He glanced over to his left only to see black smoke coming from one of his engines, and then the distinct color of a fire. Suddenly the engine exploded and his left wing ripped off. The plane was uncontrollable now, and Anton was sent spinning off towards the ground. With all his might he pulled together and straightened out the plane, before smashing into the ground.... in the good kind of crash.
He groaned at the burning sensation in his head when he finally awoke. Climbing out of the cockpit, he could hear faint voices of British men in the distance. Anton took a moment to recover from the crash, his whole body aching, before finally setting off into the woodlands. Dashing through the trees and bushes, Anton was finding it harder and harder to see. He was already fatigued, injured, out of breath, and was probably suffering from some internal bleeding, he finally collapsed and rolled down small hill, before smashing into a tree.
Once again the German pilot awoke to a burning sensation in his head and the voices of British men surrounding him. He was lying on his belly, with right hand under his chest, so he decided to pull out his pistol from his jacket. As soon as he did, one of the men began shouting, probably about him moving. Anton looked up and saw 3 men. A men in military uniform with a Sten Mk. II , and 2 civilians. Obviously the soldier was his first target. Slowly he began to raise his left hand and pull out his right hand from under his chest. Abruptly and suddenly, he whipped out his right hand, and fired off 3 quick shots and then turned his attention to the other 2 men, doing the same to them.
Hurling down his pistol, he crawled over to the dying British soldier, and tore the Sten out of his hands. He hushed the men down and awaited until he died of bleeding. Finally, Anton rose to his feet, his Sten in hand, and began to make his way through the woodlands, not as afraid of British opposition as much. His hands tightened around the Sten as he heard movement behind him.
