Whatever brought the girl to this sort of plan? Why there of all places? She had no idea? Maybe it was her love for her friend. Emelie. Her half German half French friend. She was a Jew just like Annabella, however, Annabella chose to keep this a secret. Emelie chose not to. Anna hoped there weren't any Nazi soldiers on patrol that day she chose to visit Emelie. Emelie had been in hiding for few years now. Annabella had no idea how Emelie coped with this sort of life. How did the Nazis not find out? Maybe Emelie was just good at disguising herself in this kind of situation. She decided to make this visit quick and easy. No problems, no nothing.
She put on her button up coat. She grabbed hold of her plum-colored umbrella that was hanging on the hanger. It was raining outside. She liked rain, but in Berlin, she grew rather sick and tired of it. She quickly picked up her house keys and left out the door. She locked the door. She began strolling down the hallway of the third floor. She lived in an apartment building. It was made of red brick. Not the best, but good. She was content with life, unlike Emelie, who had barely anything to depend on. She was planning on taking Emelie in. She knew it could risk everything but she couldn't bare watching Emelie being pulled into a truck and driven off to a Concentration Camp. It was unbearable.
She walked outside of her apartment building, taking out her plum-colored umbrella. She opened it and settled it over herself. She stumbled down the steps and stepped onto the streets of Berlin. The light rain flowed onto her umbrella. She walked down the streets, glancing around at the people's faces as she did so. Her heels swayed with her movements. She walked at a quick pace. She admitted, she just wanted to get there and get it over with. Most of the men she walked past, of course, had the Swastika on. Almost every man and boy had it on these days. It wasn't very surprising.
She finally reached the area. The place smelled like blood and urine. How utterly sickening - she thought. She sighed, trying not to endure the scent around her. She walked around. People were crying. A few even stood there emotionless, waiting for something to happen to their lives. She felt a lump form in her throat and a sting in her eyes. It was harsh to look at. She walked up the stairs that led to the tiny apartment that belonged to her friend's dead family. The rain lessened. That was a good start. She walked over to her friend's door. She knocked. Emelie answered and welcomed Anna with a hug. Anna returned it.
It was then when Anna heard the sound of a truck's rumbling. Oh how tremendous, just as she thought that there would be such problems, such problems had to occur. She quickly turned around to see a a truck that belonged to the Nazis driving into the site. A tiny, faint gasp escaped from her lips. She quickly pushed Emelie into the apartment and closed the door. She gazed at Emelie for a few seconds. Emelie gazed back, pained. Anna glanced outside the window. Emelie rushed over to the window and closed the ripped curtains. Emelie was now trembling. Anna walked over to her friend, wrapping an arm around Emelie's shoulder and sitting her down on the two-seater sofa. "Wir werden daraus sicher herauskommen." Anna whispered, softly.
