Name: Lief Bielski
Nationality:
German-Russian
What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath?
None
Character History:
Lief was born in a small peasent village in North-Eastern Germany in 1928. His mother was a young German Jewish woman, and his father a writer. But tradgety struck soon after his birth. His father, a strong communist, was murdered by drunk SA troops at a beer hall. His mother, grief stricken, cared for a newborn Lief by herself.
But yet another catastrophe struck when he was but five years old. Adolf Hitler came to power, making citizenship hard for Jewish families. After abuse by the Nazis, Lief's mother left for Poland, were she enrolled Lief in a local school.
For the next seven years, Lief and his mother lived as any other family would. School, friends, religion, everything was normal. But it was all shattered when "Polish troops" "attacked" radio posts on the German-Polish border.
The SS started to brutaly round up the Jews in Lief's tiny town. Several Jewish men had banded together to form a resistance and Lief was let in, but his mother refused. The men lead Lief into a local forest to hide from the Nazi troops searching the town. But the resistance was short lived.
Nazi K9 units sniffed out Lief and the others. Soldiers shot the men. But Lief ran, a rifle clenched in his hand, through the forest. Out of the forest. Into the town. Out of the town. All over.
He hitched on trucks, boats, and ran on foot. There he remains. An 11 year old boy, living in the rubble of war, that is Lief.
Military Rank: None
Writing Sample:
Patpatpatpat.
Patpatpatpat.
The sound of tiny footprints echoed through blown out city, shattering the grim silence. Panic shot through Lief's mind. He had no idea were he was, but there were Nazis. Lots of them.
Lief ducked down behind the remenints of a wall, breathing heavily. His skinny frame, draped in a tattered leather coat and Green woolen scarf, blended in well with the shadow covered wall. The moon shined brightley in the corner of the night sky, casting eerie light across the battered city.
Lief fingered the felt Star of David on his coat, witch made him stand out. But he wore the patch with pride. He was not afraid to be a Jew. The Nazis would have to deal with it, because Lief was an expert at survival. Or so he thought.
Slowly, Lief peeked around the wall. A rubble strewn town square stood before him. A ruined fountain stood in the middle, casting shadows across the remains of buildings that rowed the square.
Lief dashed across the square. "HALT!" The German word echoed in his ears, spreading fear througout his body. But Lief wouldn't agree to the Nazi. He would keep running. So he did, letting his feet fly across the pavement.
The Nazi soldier shouted behind Lief, but he had already past the guard. He started running faster, faster, faster. He wouldnt stop untill he outran the mean, stupid Nazis. Stupid, stupid, stupid Nazis. Running, running, running, running...
