Hey guys,
So I've been thinking, this place needs more role play activity and I get the feeling not many people are in the mood for lengthy posts or anything too deep to get stuck into. I could be wrong, but the vibe I'm picking up, is that people want something fun and entertaining, that doesn't consist of sitting idle for an hour typing up a post - right?
Well, I got thinking, for entertainment purposes, we could try something new and a one-off sort of thing to get people enticed back into role playing on here. With special updates only around the corner that's primed to be released soon, we should try getting back into the rhythm of role playing.
In the meantime, to get those juices flowing, I was thinking that perhaps we could have a fun little entertainment catcher to get us back in the mood and the main idea that sprung to mind, was a mini-game called "The I.O Survival Games" and yes, if you're wondering, it would be along the lines of The Hunger Games or Battle Royale (Japanese movie of the same genre).
For those who aren't clued up on what either of these are, allow me to explain what the rules consist of below for this game and if enough people are intrigued, we could give it a go and see where it takes us. Something to keep us entertained in the past-time and hopefully get some role playing ideas flowing for more appropriate I.O plots!
Back-story:[/b]
Several individuals are placed into a controlled environment (such as a wilderness/forest/place under high observations and security) and then forced to fight one another until the death until such time there is only one survivor remaining. However, it's a stark contrast to a gladiator coliseum, because the "arena" may consist of being a wide and large open area, where the individuals would have to both survive and fight one another for numerous days until one such survivor remains.
Various objects, weapons, items and such forth are scattered and placed within the arena for the individuals to use both in hostile combat and to survive with.
The Rules:[/b]
Now it's tricky thinking up some simple and hardened rules for this, because if we did give this game a shot, we want it to be quick, simple and purely entertaining without too much red-tape. However, we're going to need some red-tape to keep it in line with being reasonable fair as possible.
Would you guys be up for something like this to happen? If we gain enough interest, I would be happy to host something like this and depending if another moderator would like to help moderate it (optional), we can keep on top of regular moderating and hopefully keep this small entertainment game rolling.
Depending how public view is on this game, I know this site is extremely inactive right now, I can draft up a makeshift map and we can get this off the ground.

- RULE #1:
A small role play post is required, a mere paragraph will suffice, so long as you perform all necessary actions you wish to perform within that post.
Example: "Bob climbed a tree within the forest to stay out of sight of the other players and ate a can of beans as quietly as possible. Once finished, he climbed out of the tree and explored the nearby river for anything interesting." - That's fine.
You can type as much as you want, so long as you don't take too long, this game needs to be a fast paced posting game in order to keep it active. So fast, that you will only have 12 - 24hrs to post or you're automatically skipped. - RULE #2:
There will be two round cycles; daytime and nighttime.
Your daytime posts will be made in the main thread, everyone can see you on the map and everyone can see your posts. Much like a normal battle thread.
Your nighttime posts will be made in secret, you will have to send these to myself (or the moderator of this game) with your map edit. Nobody will know your movements on the map within the nighttime cycle, unless you accidentally came across another player or found another player during the nighttime cycle, then these will be revealed within the daytime cycle - following?
To put it simply. Daytime cycle, normal posts. Nighttime cycle, secret posting (PMs to the moderator) and there's no posting order, you send your posts as soon as you're done and if you explore an area during the night-time cycle before someone else posts their exploration of that area, you may beat them to the loot. Plus, if trouble happens during the nighttime cycle, it will be revealed during the daytime cycle; however, all movements and posts made in the nighttime cycle will only be shown at the end of the battle.
It will all become clear during the thread. - RULE #3:
You can create alliances, but at the end there must only be one survivor and your alliance will have to be broken sooner or later. So if you ally with someone and they suddenly stab you in the back, that's fair game, no complaining please. - RULE #4:
If you asked to do something by the moderator of the battle, you must do it or attempt to do it. These will be known as "random events" and will occur at any time to make the game more entertaining, to give an example of what could be considered a random event:
"Bob, as punishment for hiding all the time, you must either break one of your hands or attempt to go get yourself a kill within the next day"
If Bob fails to do either, then a punishment will occur, which could involve being highlighted on the map for all players during the nighttime cycle, be wounded severely or much worse.
Other random events could occur, may be special drop items being introduced into the game and announced to all players of their whereabouts. For example: "A handgun will be at the starting area within the next day cycle". - RULE #5:
In contrary to the night-cycles having no posting order and you simply PM the moderator your posts as soon as you're done, the day cycles will be the same, but publicly made.
For example, all members are warned that the daytime cycle of posting starts 1800hrs GMT (Britain & Ireland) or 1300hrs Eastern Time (US & Canada) and then it's first come, first serve basis.
All members can post, even if you're attacking another player, the player being attacked can still post, but obviously their post may be void immediately if the moderator rules that they've been killed or otherwise.
Yes - a moderation post will occur for ALL posts at the end of both the daytime and nighttime cycle. Any members who fail to post within the cycle, will be slightly god-modded to having hidden within the area, but not moved or done any alternative actions. These players will be extremely vulnerable, so it's essential you post ASAP, first come and first serve basis will play a big factor within this game. You must strive to be the first poster to do all the necessary things you wish to do... - RULE #6:
You will all be "IN CHARACTER" with your chosen member accounts, whether you decide to stray on the Allied Vs Axis persona within the game or not, is entirely your choice, but be reminded that there will only be one winner and survivor.
All drops will be war-time-period orientated, ranging from weaponry, items and alternatives. Please don't break character, saying you found an iPod or that you wish President Obama wasn't in the Whitehouse - you could be punished. - RULE #7:
One last crucial factor will be the need for food and water. To keep things simple for the first edition of this game, both water and food will replenish the same hunger source all characters will be facing.
Hunger will decrease gradually over the daytime and nighttime cycle, depending upon your actions and movements. More movements and actions will incur higher hunger needs, hiding and remaining idle, will mean your hunger will decrease far slower.
If you hunger runs out completely, you will eventually die and be extremely weak during that period and lower the hunger, the lower your personal morale will be. If your morale hits rock-bottom, you're less likely to do things effectively or efficiently, plus you also face the risk of being irrational within situations and god-modded doing things you wouldn't normally do or want to do, for instance: Attack another player without being sneaky about it or commit suicide. - RULE #8:
Lastly, the rules could be subject to change at any given time, but a notification will be made in doing so.
Would you guys be up for something like this to happen? If we gain enough interest, I would be happy to host something like this and depending if another moderator would like to help moderate it (optional), we can keep on top of regular moderating and hopefully keep this small entertainment game rolling.
