Liesl nodded slightly as Friedrich began to talk about the places he’s traveled to. She quietly studied him her teal blue eyes scanned him over as if she were trying to read him, ”You’re very lucky to have traveled quite a lot…” she smiled, ”I haven’t seen much…only the inside of a hospital or these tents….” she laughed again.
She smiled to herself, thinking about the places he had mentioned, wondering how those places might have been before this war started. Her mind began to wonder a bit, as she began to think about her home back in Austria. Her smile quickly faded when Friedrich mentioned she remembered his name. She looked down at her lap averting all eye contact with him.
”Ummm….I suppose we have something in common…” she said avoiding his statement, ”I’ve never been to Berlin either…though, from what other nurses tell me…it’s quite beautiful during winter….” she said quietly
She folded the paper and foil that covered the rest of the chocolate, holding it out to him, ”Would you like the rest of it? I’m sure you’d enjoy it more than me….” she said, gently opening his hand and placing the chocolate bar in it. She smiled nervously, ”We get some chocolate with our rations every few months...”

His smile slowly faded along with hers, as he realized he shouldn't have mentioned it, making him do a silent shrug for a moment, he liked it better when she was making eye contact. But he was used at making mistakes when talking to people, and what not to say was most of his weakness when talking, orders and expecting result was where he was getting it.
He nodded agreeing "Well most of Germany is... You should see Lübeck" He spoke of Lübeck with a certain joy and a home longing in his eyes. "Although it is very cold and might not be the rich trading town as it was once... It's a particularly nice place specially when looking over our old town... Battleships seems odd when covered in snow" He said the last part thoughtfully thinking of what he had seen while being in Lübeck the ships had come a lot when the war had started, German ships.
As she offered him the chocolate he considered receiving it from her but he kept himself from it "I might enjoy it more... But you'll have more use of it, I'm certain I'll have a larger chance to get chocolate... Though I thank you greatly for the offer... I don't want to take rations from another person... Not in our time" He said as he felt the need to explain why he refused, and he was right they got it when they had to make more physical taking tasks, or at the multiple days rations, and it was a good addition to the dry bread.
After a few moments of silence "You ever plan on going to Berlin?" He asked curiously, before continuing more out of subject "I'm sure you're family is proud of you... Helping here" He said with a faint smile, not knowing if this would be the right time.

A small smile crossed her lips again, placing the chocolate bar in Friedrich’s hand and closing it, ”I insist…I don’t mind sharing some of my rations…” she said in a softened tone,”Besides I suppose I should show my gratitude for all that you are doing for our country…” she said with a smile
Awkward silence began to sink in when they went silent. Thoughts ran through her head as she began to think about how she was going to continue the conversation. She quirked her eyebrow slightly when he mentioned Berlin.
”I’m not entirely sure if I plan to go there…maybe in the future.” she said looking at Friedrich. She smiled slightly when he mentioned her parents, ”I actually haven’t heard from my parents since I was sent out here to help.” she laughed a bit, ”It doesn’t matter….either way, you’re right they would be proud…and I’m sure yours are too.”
”If you don’t mind me asking…I’m curious…what made you want to become a soldier?” she asked.
Liesl looked at Friedrich with child-like curiosity; she smoothed out her uniform, putting her elbows on her knees before resting her chin in her hands.
”Was it the sense of danger that allured you…or the glory and fame that you would gain from it?” she asked in a somewhat teasing tome

He smiled thankfully at her as she insisted, it was far from needed but he was surprised and glad at her kindness. "Danke Schön" He said with a happy tone, she sure did help on ones mood, he thought to himself. Suddenly she began to talk about showing gratitude for all that he did for the country, though he somehow felt that other did more then him, there was a war on and he just sat here and talked to a nurse. His smile fainted a bit.
As she said that his parents would be proud too he shrugged thoughtfully, he wasn't entirely sure what they felt, he hadn't had the heart to write them, his mother was most likely in sorrow about it and his father mad but still proud. "I think my father is... Haven't had the heart to write them... Not since I enlisted" He said with a thoughtful look on his face for a short moment before the smile returned.
He thought for a moment about her question. Few tended to ask about such things "Oh I don't mind you asking" He said with a smile, feeling something exciting about her, although she was most likely a lot older then him.
After having heard her teasing theories he nodded a bit "Well... It's about the love for my country... Patriotism... When the Fatherland called for help and France, and England declared war I felt that I couldn't let my country down. Although to begin with they didn't want me because of...." He reached to stop himself before he accidental told about his age, not that he didn't trust her but it was his secret. "Any ways... And by now i have received some 'fame' for my work... First campaign and I got promoted" He said with a proud smile.
"How about you? What made you join up?" He asked curiously.

"Oh? really you don't then, by all means... precede." she replied with a smile
Liesl listened intently as Friedrich spoke, she had a slight hunch that he'd respond as he did. She quietly looked him over, she quirked her eyebrow slightly realizing he looked pretty young to enlist in the army. She decided to stay silent and keep her thoughts to herself, he might have had a good reason to join this young...perhaps his father was too old and he joined in his place? she wondered. She shook her head slightly laughing a bit at the thought.
She began twiddling her thumbs as he replied to her theories. She blew a strand of her dark hair away from her face when he asked why she decided to join as well.
Liesl shrugged her shoulders slightly, gathering her thoughts. Why did I join?? she thought, tapping her chin slightly.
"Hmm...well....truthfully...I don't know why I joined." she said with a nervous smile, "I think I joined because....I wanted to help..." she smiled a bit more brightly, "That and...my mother told me...before I left to help, that one touch from a nurse can calm..."
She laughed a bit, "Ah...it might seem like a pretty silly thought to you." she said as she rubbed some dry blood off her calloused hands.

He came to like her more and more she was polite and smiled most of the time, she was what would keep many peoples hopes and joy up, as well as their health, he was sure she was a skilled medic. He returned her smile as an act of being polite and her actually making him happy, talking to a person not being a soldier was very nice for a change and very satisfying to say the least, made one have different discussions then the usual SS stuff.
He kept looking at her trying to gain eye contact, mostly cause it was preferred for him to speak while looking people in the eyes and cause he had bin raised that way. As she said that that thought might seem silly to him he shook his head "No, not at all makes a lot of sense... We all want to help and I'm sure that your mother was right, a touch from a nurse can calm. And its also very nice to talk to you to say the least. I'm having a very pleasant time spending time here, although i do apology if i am a bit boring... Just never been the best at talking for a long period of time, and haven't really seen much to talk about lately..." He pulled on his shoulders remaining with a smile on his lips.
He scratched his cheek "by the way i came to think... How long have you been here anyway? I mean like you been here enough to have gotten used to everything around here and now your way around base?" He might sound a bit like he was at an end track at what to ask, but he felt, at least to himself that he did a brave attempt at keeping the conversation going, he didn't want to end this meeting right now, it was a nice person and he felt calm. And what else would he spend his little spare time on he could walk around, read or draw but nothing really came to him. "By the way... Might i ask what kind of interests you have? To do in your spare time..." he asked with a polite tone and a smile.

A small smile wavered on her soft pink lips, ”Surprisingly…as much as I don’t want to admit it…so am I…and nein I don’t think you’re boring at all…” she smiled, ”Well much more talkative than the patients…well…on a personal level that is...” Liesl continued to smile as Friedrich spoke, she couldn’t help but let out a small laugh, ”Well…we are in the middle of a war…it doesn’t really surprise me that you’re not use to these kinds of conversations….” she half teased She quietly watched him, mostly observing the bandages she had place on his head. She studied it for a bit, running a list through her head if she had disinfected it correctly and binded it well so it could heal. Her teal-blue eyes finally came to rest, making full on eye contact with Friedrich as he asked her a question. She bit her lower lip, ”Well, I’ve only been here for a few months….I guess I know my way around here pretty well…” she said in a bit of a shy tone. She did a little scan of the tent, quickly glancing over at the sleeping patients if they were in some sort of distress or needed immediate attention. She then returned her gaze back at Friedrich and proceeded with their conversation, ”Interests? I’d ask you the same question…but our conversation would be going nowhere would it….” she said teasingly, ”Lets see…I really can’t name one at the moment…I haven’t had time to think about it actually…” she said reclining in a more comfortable posture, ”I suppose I like to I don’t know…organize my medic bag?” she said more in a joking tone.

He smiled politely at her and chuckled lightly. he shook his head mostly at himself, sitting here was nice and he had forgotten some of his trouble, and it was nice to think about something different then war and death for once, although he really despised the location they was at. He coughed. "I'm glad that I learnt you to know" he said with a smile.
He leant back being a bit amused about her accessing her own work on her bandaging, made him feel more safe about the work she had done. He looked out the door of the tent when he heard the sound of two messerschmitts flying over the tent he raised his eyebrows slightly considering they went away from the front though he just shrugged it of not thinking much of where they were going "It would have been really nice to have been a pilot... Imagine flying around over the battle... and the safety from a sky..." He shook his head at himself by that thought.
Then suddenly some larger roaring of engines could be heard and he started to look confused, as a soldier one learned to know the sound of ones own countries engines and what weren't so that one would dodge at the correct time when a tactical bombardment was going to happen. The German engines mostly being de-synchronised meant that they had a specific sound, and these hadn't. He got a very worried look on his face as the sound got closer.
He got to his feet rather quickly taking a few steps so he stood in the entrance before suddenly the air raid sirens started sounding and people started running around the square between the buildings and the medical tents and men quickly armed the AA guns. He quickly went to Liesl "Quickly! Is there a shelter around here?" finally he had gotten the voice one would expect from a soldier, not so calm or soft any more but more filled with authority and a will to survive. Though just as he had asked the whistling sound before the first few bombs hit the ground continued by an explosion sounded.

Liesl fidgeted slightly not really knowing what to talk about at this point with this soldier. She wasn’t quite sure why she decided to speak to him in the first place. Her eyes shifted slightly and on to her lap. A low hum of engines drew her attention from her lap...they weren’t too close. They came and went posing no apparent threat. She sighed quietly turning her attention back on the Soldier as he spoke, ”Nien…being a pilot would have been nice.” she replied softly, ”Though, I don’t think it’s safer up there as it is on the ground…they’re about the same.” she said looking towards the entrance of the tent. As soon as she stopped speaking a louder hum of engines broke the silence. Weird…those sound pretty close.. she thought. She stood up as the soldier did and followed him towards the entrance of the tent, ”What’s going on?” she asked in an almost panicked tone. Her heart began to race, she couldn’t quite grasp how dire the situation was. Granted she was only a nurse…she couldn’t differentiate between the sounds of the engines…weather it be one of theirs or the enemy’s. Then it struck her, the sound of air raid sirens made her pale slightly in her face, the first thing she thought of was the patients in the tents, God! Why now!? she thought looking at Friedrich. ”Shelter?” she repeated, “Well, yes there’s one not too far from here. You should head over there…I have to...”her voice trailed off, not bothering to finish her sentence; she ran to help the other nurses start to move the injured soldiers.

He was rather surprised at how fast this had all happened while he was also irritated on his conversation to have been cut short because of the job she had to do to save the patients, a thing that he was glad she did. Where he took lives she saved them. A notable skill. She hadn't told him where the shelter was so now he had to find an alternative place to hide, and he had always been told to stay close to buildings though not inside of them.
He quickly ran to a stone wall of a building keeping his head low with the constant sound of bullets from the AA guns, shouting and screaming as well as bombs hitting the ground. As he reached the building he dropped for cover. And this was what he was supposed to have avoided when his officer had send him back here for a warm meal.
A shell hit the building making rubble fly all over making him cover his head starting to only hear a ringing noise feeling very disorganized, while he felt a slight feeling of fear rushing through him as well as the pain from his head had now just gotten worse. for a few minutes seeing people run around and the commander of the anti aircraft unit yelling something which he couldn't hear yet. Then came back his hearing.
The bombing had stopped and now was just for helping out the wounded while the fighters finally caught up with the bombers. He dusted off his uniform before an officer pointed at him and yelled he should go to good use and help out somewhere. He then quickly hurried over and helped as a stretcher bearer, transporting the wounded around while now receiving orders from the medical personnel. And after he had helped he would need to get back to the front or at least after a rest here in the now battle hit field hospital.
