OOC: I have returned. Would you guys like to start a new thread soon? Combat or otherwise =)
Pushing along, the Lieutenant gripped fiercely into the gruff dirty fabric of the ‘so-called’ wounded soldier, strewn across the back of his shoulders. The wounded man hung tightly to the quick paced Lieutenant, who’d done this all too well and many times before; briefly stopping, he allowed the two cautious point men to gain a little leeway between the two, his eyes darting around for a quick observation of how things were going. Smooth by the look of things, thankfully.
In comparison to the opposing trench, the Lieutenant’s didn’t have a makeshift river crossing, instead, it swerved off towards the side slightly and a different obstacle laid ahead; a steep climb. Trenches were initially made as burrows and curves to conceal enemy movement, but purposely, this trench had some nicks in it too. This steep climb wasn’t made with a slope and hardly had enough planks supporting it to preserve a ladder for the men to climb, so abruptly, the small column came to a stop and the Lieutenant grinned. “Climb it then lads” he muttered with a cheeky smile, the two lead men grumbling a little as the slung their rifles over their shoulders, digging their fingers into the splintered wood that was left on the five foot muddy climb, pulling themselves up with small made effort.
Soon enough, they clambered up onto the top of the ‘new level’ trench. That was ironically, not a trench anymore. The two trenches were designed to meet up and Lieutenant Brentwood’s trench was now to go above ground, aiding the other task force at hand. As the two men stood idle, looking a little lost for a moment, Liam approached with the wounded man and hardly made a gesture before the men lashed down to grasp the wounded male and lift him up. “Good work, C’mon, let’s get the other’s up this wall lads” he said reassuringly to the other’s. Who all in turn walked up towards the wall and hoisted the men up, laying them down upon the ground up top, awaiting further instructions to be carried.
“Don’t let your guard down you bloody blighters!” huskily spat out the Lieutenant towards the men who waddled about, waiting to climb the wall or what not, their personas soon changing as they grabbed at their rifles, putting on more of a guard display. Sighing beneath his breath, he reached up towards the two men who’d nicely lifted the wounded up, gaining bit of a hand up the wall as they lifted him up. Standing at the top, he allowed the men to help the other’s up, seeming more interested in their next task at hand, his sight narrowing off towards the other trench, barely just about seeing the other team moving towards a small makeshift river for them to move over.
“That’s all of us Sir”[/I] breathlessly announced one of the soldiers who helped pull up the lads, panting somewhat heavily. “Good, Good. Okay, let’s make things a little easier now. You lot, stand up. Congratulations, you’re bloody healed” the few men muttered slightly amongst themselves and stood slowly, quite enjoying the ride of being pulled along. “Right, follow me” he hastily ordered, pushing off his feet towards the other trench, overlooking them.
Weirdly, the Lieutenant’s Trench was now abandoned and moving to the Company Sergeant Major’s trench, the Lieutenant stood overlooking at the opposing end. “How’s it going Sergeant?” called out Liam with a throatily cough. His body lowering as he dropped down into the trench at the other end of the river crossing, his arm flagging up to the other’s who quickly followed suit, dropping down. “Thought we’d give you a hand” he slipped out soon after, watching the other team with a slight intention that showed no helping hand… Just a grin…
