"Yes, I think it would about the time to go back" Daniel said thoughtfuly. Although quiet, it appeared Owen really was Ok sort of person. Daniel looked forward to possibly working with him in the future. He seemed to be the sort of person who could hold their head in a combat situation. Many NCO's had just been promoted for displaying good leadership quality's in training. But when confronted with real enemies and real enemy fire some of them just broke down. And when you are in the middle of fighting a squad of Germans that was a very bad thing for the men under your command. Daniel's eyes had had an angered look upon them as he recalled a membory in his head, but he quickly hid the look.
He turned off the path and down an ally between two long buildings. He answered the question before it had been put to him, "This is a shortvut back to where we started. It's grimy and gloomy and you don't see anything unlike the way I took you here. But, you have seen everything by now and Stumpy will give out to us if we don't get back quickly." He grinned slightly to himself. Although Stumpy did get angry and give out to people he found it hard to stay angry at them and he usually broke off midway through a giving-out and started chatting to you like normal. Daniel did walk at a quick pace, though. Although he liked Owen he was in a bit of a hurry and he had places to go.
(Hope you don't mind another participant! I'll be starting off when you guys "return" as you'll see in my post.) Role Playing as Baker's Squad Members
"Awh c'mon, Paddy! Just two bucks! I'll pay ya back and then some if I win!"
"But that's the problem, Jack. You never win. And don't call me Paddy. You know I hate that!"
The two privates, Jack Courtland, and Franklin Paddock, were walking together outside the administration office, heading towards their barracks. "Quit being such a baby, Paddy! It's just a nickname! Now loan me two dollars!" Paddock turned to Courtland and balled his right hand into a fist. "That's IT! I've had it!" Paddock swung his arm around to punch Courtland, who strated to cower and cover his head. But Paddock's arm was pulled down from another person behind the two. They both turned and looked back to see Private Thomas Zanovich.
Zanovich put Paddock's arm down as the trio made their way to the barracks together. Zanovich slapped Paddock on the head jokingly and laughed. "Franklin, learn to take a joke." Zanovich then slapped Courtland on the back of the head as well. "And you quit trying to bum money when you know you can't win at cards to save your life!" Paddock and Courtland laughed at one another's faults and fell behind Zanovich who lead them walking. Zanovich was a good soldier. He made the jump on D-Day and assited Baker in multiple engagements. If there was anyone to take over Baker's position, it was Zanovich.
The three soldiers continued their walk. Paddock looked back to Zanovich. "Okay, Zano, no more horseplay. Scouts honor." Courtland laughed because he knew Paddock was smart mouthing Zanovich. Courtland too chimed in. "Yeah, scouts honor!" As Courtland said that he made the Boy Scouts sign with his index and middle fingers and crossing them. He and Paddock chuckled as Zanovich shook his head.
Just then, as the three were about to cross a makeshift street, a jeep cam hurling down the road. Courtland, who was a few steps ahead of the other two, had to dive back and down to avoid being hit by the jeep. Zanovich and Paddock ran to Courtland and helped him up. Courtland looked at the jeep as it drove away and couldn't help but laugh. "Man... that would have sucked. All that's happened only to die like that?" Paddock added, "Yeah, that and the fact not many people use that shortcut to begin with. The odds."[/i] The men headed off in pursuit of the jeep.[/size]

Owen followed Dan as he walked down the dark alleyway. Smoking soldiers littered the sides, leaning up against the walls. The walls were covered with graffiti and Owen was unable to tell what the original colors were. One writing caught his eye that hit him really deep, because it was someone expressing their views on the war. What appeared to be a food worker tossed a garbage bag into a nearby dumpster.
Dan explained the route they were taking, giving Owen a bit of understanding as to why they had gone this way. Just after that, he noticed the quick pace that Dan had been moving at and picked up his own pace. They had reached the end of the alleyway and Owen quickly saw the administration building in the distance.

OOC: Really short, hurried post but I am in a hurry. :/
The two soldiers walked companiably down the ally-way. This was where a big group of smokers always lounged every day. Practicaly everyone in the whole base smoked and nobody wouldn't have minded if they smoked in their barracks', but these people out here chose not to for some odd reason. Daniel rinkled his noes at the smell of the smoke from years of ciggarettes and the smell of urine was also strong in the air. The latter was the worse to be breathing in. 'Now I remember why I don't walk down here too often...' Daniel thought to himself mournfuly.
The two walked out of the ally-way a short way away from the building they had started off in. Daniel tried not to show it, but he was happy to be out of the dank, enclosed ally and he was breathing in deeper than he usually would; loving the fresh air. "I'm in a bit of a hurry, to be honest" Daniel muttered tp Owen. "Is it Ok if we jog? He had already started hurrying forwards before Owen had a chance to speak.

They had just reached the light at the end of the tunnel that was the alleyway, reaching the wonderfully clean air that didn't enter the cramped space, when Dan asked Owen, "I'm in a bit of a hurry, to be honest. Is it OK if we jog?" Dan started running before Owen had completely comprehended the question, so Owen sprinted to catch up to Dan's pace. The dirt beneath Owen's feet compacted from the soles of his shoes forcing the small particles together and leaving a defined footprint, broken in the middle from the next stride's force.
Owen was just about caught up with Dan, when he could see the familiar administration building clearly. Owen sped up to reach the door of the building that awaited their return. He held the door open for Dan to enter upon reaching the building also. A lot of effort just to be polite, he thought to himself.

Daniel grinned to himself as he heard the Corporal scramble to catch up. He slowed into a comfortable jog to let Owen catch up. A warm wind brushed against him, rising his fringe into the air. Owen then caught up with him, but instead of staying at the slow pace he started sprinting ahead to the building they were headed to. Daniels face took on a confused expression. Had he thought Daniel had challenged him to a race or something. Owen reached the door easily ahead of Daniel and instead of going inside he pulled open the door and held hit open. Daniel grinned to himself. He reached the Corporal and laughed. "What a gentleman!" he said sarcastically.
He walked in the door and entered the cool, slightly damp building. He started walking towards where Stumpy's desk was at a fast pace, although he wasn't jogging as he had done inside. He reached the hallway and opened to door without knocking which earned him a disproving look from Stumpy. He gestured Owen inside ahead of him before closing the door. "'Ya finished yet, Stumpy?" He asked. Stumpy nodded, "Yeah.". He made a motion for Owen to come closer to the desk to take a small piece of paper.

“What a gentleman,” pierced Owen’s ears like a sharp dagger. The redness in his face went up a few notches. Dan walked past the open door and Owen followed behind him quickly. The hallway gave Owen a glimpse of familiarity in an otherwise bizarre new location. His feet hit the wood floor softly, as the floor had become much worn from constant use. The atmosphere in the building seemed to be much cooler than the outside air that he had just left. Humidity was causing a great dampness that was settling in the rooms of the building. The two went down through the familiar corridor in the administration building quite quickly as they made their way to Stumpy’s office.
The door was propped open by Dan’s hands, allowing Owen to walk into the office. The desk was much more organized than it had been before; giving Owen the sense that the man was now more prepared and had been killing time as he waited for their arrival back to the office. In the corner, Owen’s duffel bag sat like an old friend awaiting his return. He walked to the corner, picked up the sack, and slung it loosely over his right shoulder. Stumpy had motioned to a ripped piece of white paper that was limply held in an extended arm, looking as if the paper had been ripped off the corner of an unneeded document.
Owen took a few steps to the desk and took the piece of paper from the arm that was carrying it. He flipped it over and saw what it read: Bravo Company First Lieutenant Nicholas Ealing Sergeant Matt Baker He had his unit assignment in this unfamiliar place, and began to feel a small connection beginning to tie him to the new place that would be home for the next many weeks. He took his bag, said his thanks to the two who had helped him so much in his first while in the different base, and left the building in search of the people whose names were given to him on the informal piece of paper.
