"Incoming!!" A man yelled in German as a huge explosion erupted behind him knocking him to the ground. The man who had yelled this was now in front of Freidrich completely obliterated and he kept repeating the same words over and over. "Why didn't you help me,Corporal? Why did this happen?"
Freidrich snapped up straight in his bed sweating bullets. He realized it was just a dream, but it felt so real. He got out of bed and went to the sink. He splashed some of the water over his face and looked into the mirror at himself. The reflection looking back at him wasn't his own, though. It was indeed the face of the bloody soldier in his dream. Freidrich quickly shut his eyes and then opened them to see his own normal reflection.
Freidrich returned to his bunk to get his watch. Four-thirty in the morning. It was half and hour before he normally would've gotten up so he did what he normally would've,read his Bible. His Bible was truly the only thing that comforted him in this horrible world that he knew.
Freidrich looked at his watch again. Five o' clock. He got up and got dressed. He then went through the morning routine that he had every morning: get dressed, brush teeth, comb hair, and wake the recruits. He did the last thing with more gusto than normal.
"Get up! Get up you soldier's of Germany!" Freidrich yelled as to wake up his recruits. "Anyone who isn't outside in five exact minutes, will be left behind to catch up to the rest of his squad." After Freidrich was done with waking the men, mostly boys as he saw, Freidrich walked outside to wait for them. He was lookinbg at his watch every few seconds, counting them down. He saw a few recruits burst out of the door as if they had just seen a very attractive woman and trying to get to her first. He looked over the group and saw five young men. Freidrich knew most of their name's which he noted in his head. "Heinrich, Rudolph, Hans,Edrien, and the last one's name he couldn't remember as it was not required to know the name's of you're recruits.
Freidrich looked at his watch once more. Five minutes was up. He saw fourteen men in front of him. Fifteen was in his group. "Well, looks like there's a lady in our barracks today, boys." Freidrich said. In saying this a few of the boys laughed.
"Well let's leave the missy to her work." In saying that Freidrich pivoted on his heel and started at a well-paced jog on a five mile run.
