McMillan stepped aside as the group amassed into the small room. Luckily the translator was not with them, made sense, both he and McMillan could translate and McMillan had more knowledge of the boy than anyone else within many many miles. This would indeed help their situation. Edward looked toward Colly with a stern face when his superior asked for information. "Gut haben Herr, er mich von einem anstößigen Manöver erzählt, das seine Einheit plante. Gut wenigstens, was er davon sowieso gekannt hat. Scheint, dass er um ein Bit geschnüffelt hat, genug zu gewinnen, das jetzige Bild für es anzustreichen. Ich bin nicht sicher, wenn, was er sagt, genau einmal sie kennen bleiben wird, dass ein Mitglied von der Einheit Fehlen gegangen ist, aber gegeben sein niedriger Rang sie mehr als wahrscheinlich es in Berücksichtigung nicht wird nehmen. Von was er sagt, dass die Alliierten dies glauben, eine große Gelegenheit zu sein, werden sie weg so eine Chance über einem Arbeitssklaven ist Fehlen nicht werfen, kennen sie auch nicht, dass er in feindlichen Händen ist." McMillan stated with no hesitation. For the moment it seemed he had gained the officer's trust, not that he had joined the SS with the intention of undermining them ever, not even in the slightest, he was whole heartedly with the unit, but Colly changed things, he was Edward's weakness, and the only one he knew about thus far.

Edward paused to allow Schneider a moment to roll it around in his head a bit. "Ich habe frther Details Herr, wenn Sie wünschen, sie zu hören." he offered. There was a chance that wasn't the information the Obersturmführer was looking for, but for the moment, in Stephen's state, it would be all they would more then likely get. Edward pulled out a pack of cigarettes and half way pulled one out before leaning over slightly to offer it to the officer. Then he stood once more and lit up one of his own, sliding the pack back into his pocket. He took a semi long drag and quickly blew it out before he perched the cancer stick on his lips to let it hang while he pulled a chair out from the table and slid it back toward the door away from Stephen, but keeping him in his sight. He leaned back and took another puff of smoke into his lungs. To some it may have looked liek he felt a sense of accomplishment, but really he was just calming his nerves and settling in, just in case this officer wanted to pry a life story from the boy.

Well sir, he told me of an offensive maneuver that his unit was planning. Well at least what he knew of it anyway. Seems he snooped around a bit to gain enough to paint the current picture for it. I'm not sure if what he says will remain accurate once they know a member of the unit has gone missing, but given his low rank they more than likely won't take it into consideration. From what he says the Allies believe this to be a great opportunity, they won't toss away such a chance over a peon being missing, they don't even know he's in enemy hands.

[Stephen Colly]

The door opened and in swept a sergeant with a gun – the barrel of which was pointing straight at the boy who was staring up with wide eyes. The officer came in after the sergeant and surveyed the room. The door then closed as the sergeant went out. Boots now sounded on the floor, they were eerie, and Stephen covered his eyes a bit to try and ease the noise that was rather frightening him.

He could feel searching, piercing eyes on him and stared straight back into those pit holes that belonged to Schneider who now spoke German to Stephen, pointing at the chair. Stephen slowly got to his feet; he still felt rather dizzy and stumbled slightly but regained his balance and picked up the chair with shaking hands; setting it upright and the furthest he could get away from the table before sitting on it.

Schneider’s attention turned to Edward now, asking something in German. Stephen’s eyes turned towards his friend who was now looking at him, meeting his eye, Stephen quickly looked away. Edward rambled on in German for a few seconds, paused and then continued something else in that ridiculous language.

The smell of cigarette smoke filled the room and Stephen looked up, Edward had lit a cigarette and was sitting in the far corner, away from him…Stephen hung his head, running both hands through his hair and giving a nervous laugh, not to be funny, just to comfort himself more than anything.

Observing the young Corporal's dazed look as he took his seat across the room, Schneider practically determined the boy was useless. Closing his eyes a little as McMillan spoke of what he had apparently beaten out of the young Corporal, Schneider sighed slightly and stepped forward towards the table. There was a pause after McMillan's words, the room taken in an awkward silence as the Obersturmfuhrer blatantly stared into Colly's eyes. His face was one of a man reading a book, as if somehow obtaining information from the boy with a cold, hard gaze. The Corporal was effeminate, apparently cowardly, held no importance, and knew nothing besides a possible fabricated Allied offensive. He was fast on his feet then, managing to formulate a logical enough plan to trick McMillan as he was getting beaten. One thing that didn't make the boy look so... shitty.

What use did this Corporal serve? What could he have possibly found out as an informant? Why had the orders been given to secure him and attempt to find out as much as possible? With a glazed look, he watched as McMillan suggested he had further details. The Obersturmfuhrer contemplated listening to them as McMillan offered some cigarettes, ultimately deciding not to. Grabbing hold of the extended cigarette, he gripped it firmly in his lips and leaned forward slightly for the Sturmscharfuhrer to light the stick of tobacco for him. Schneider took a drag on the cigarette, blowing the smoke out through his lips. Glancing first at Colly and then over to McMillan, he watched the man who was getting comfortable in the room as if this was going to take a while. Colly was sitting nervously across the room, comforting himself. The Obersturmfuhrer was surprised Colly hadn't pissed himself.

"Stören Sie nicht, weiterzugehen, McMillan. Es gibt nichts, das wir vom Gebrauch von diesem Mann erhalten können. " Schneider sighed heavily, before taking another drag on his cigarette. Ever so peacefully he muttered, "Wir ersparen Colly des Elendes der deutschen Befragung. Der arme Junge schaut nicht genug alt, um einen Krieg zu kämpfen. Muller bringt ihn auf die normalen Holdingzellen. Seine Informationen sind entweder Bullshit oder Unrecht irgendwie. " Carefully, he skimmed the outskirts of the table and approached Colly. As he neared the boy, he cocked his head to the left and looked at McMillan over his shoulder. Morbidly, he spoke of death. "Außerdem haben Nachrichten mich erreicht, dass Sturmbannfuhrer Vonhoff an einem Herzinfarkt gestorben ist. Alle seine Aufträge, die er vernarrt so verschwiegen und privat hielt, wie sein kann, sind im Allgemeinen zurückgezogen worden. " Gently lifting Colly up from the seat, he continued, "Wie die Aufträge über dieser."

He was on homestretch, nearly free. At least free from the depths of the prisons, he would at least be able to be with his comrades. If Schneider was feeling particularly merciful, maybe he wouldn't let the rumor of him being a traitor spread. Tapping on the door quite powerfully for his bare knuckles, the large steel door flung open from the outside. Colly was escorted outside under the watch of the guards, with the Obersturmfuhrer's hand still firmly gripping Colly's arm. "Muller, achten es, dass das Obergefreite auf die normalen Holdinganlagen gebracht wird. " He ordered, exchanging possession of the boy to the Untersturmfuhrer.

Schneider's gaze rested heavily upon McMillan for some time as he watched the Sturmscharfuhrer exit the room last. The steel door was closed behind him and locked, the room no longer in use. He nodded to the Sturmscharfuhrer, allowing him to proceed with his day, before he took off down the hallway after Muller. He still held his suspicion of McMillan, but hesitated act on it now. Schneider placed some trust in his Senior NCO, as any officer should do. Did he like it, though? The Obersturmfuhrer wasn't quite sure as he passed through the hall.

Translations:

- "We shall spare Colly of the misery of German interrogation. The poor boy does not look old enough to fight a war. Muller will transfer him to the normal holding cells. His information is either bullshit or wrong anyway."

- "Besides, news has reached me that Sturmbannfuhrer Vonhoff has died of a heart attack. All his orders, which he fondly kept as secretive and private as can be, have been basically canceled."

- "Like the orders about this one."

- "With me reporting directly to Vonhoff and Vonhoff being dead, the boy is useless. As if he was not before."

- "Muller, see to it that the Corporal is transferred to the normal holding facilities."

McMillan watched as it seemed to slowly set into the Officer's head, but then a mention of Vonhoff having kicked the bucket also aided it. There was no use, this was all too hastily rushed. Maybe Vonhoff was under a lot of pressure and was trying to squeeze a good move out of anything he could. Maybe the stress from all the pressure finally caught up to him. None the less, this part of the hardship seemed to have ended, this was wonderful news to Edward, although he was still very worried about what was to happen to Colly, this was still a small victory in his eyes.

McMillan stood and continued to smoke his dwindling cigarette as they slowly exited the room. As it was just he and his superior he stopped in the doorway and turned back to the man, took a breath as he slowly brought his gaze up to meet Schneider's in a very kind way. "Ich darf nicht sein hat das meiste Soldaten um hier gemocht, aber ich bin herum lang genug und sehen genug gewesen, sich Herrn auszukennen. Vielleicht nächste Zeit dürften Sie meine Meinung bedenken, bin ich nicht ein Ziegelstein, ich, dass Sie Ihre Reihenfolgen gehabt haben, ihn verstehe einbringen und ich achte jenen Herrn, aber hätte es wirklich etwas nur verletzt berichtet zu haben, dass er nicht gezeigt hat, und hat ihn ein Bit mehr vor Verbrennen jener Brücke entwickelt?" he asked in a very sincere manner, but in a whisper as to not allow another to hear his words, that would be extremely disrespectful. He didn't want to insult the man, and even though he wasn't exactly being honest, Schneider was one of the very few Officer's in the German Army that Ed had any respect for, after all, this was one of the only two men McMillan had met that both out-ranked him and had his trust enough that he would willingly follow into combat. Yet they had never served together, but McMillan knew that he didn't mind getting into the mix alongside his own men in the face of the enemy, that was an all too rare trait in Edward's eyes, but one he very much liked.

Ed kept a solemn look on his face during the man's response, if there was one, took the last drag of his cigarette before crushing it under the toe of his boot on the stone floor and walked off.

I may not be the most liked soldier around here, but I've been around long enough and seen enough to know a thing or two sir. Maybe next time, you might consider my opinion, I'm not a brick, I understand you had your orders to bring him in and I respect that sir, but would it have really hurt anything to have just reported he didn't show and develop him a bit more before burning that bridge?

Loved this thread, but that doesn't mean I'll be giving out any extra, otherwise it would be unfair on the dozens of other threads I don't get proper chance to read. But lots of good length posts, high quality writing, basically three of our best guys with high quality, serious stuff.

Colly: 10 - Slightly shorter posts on average than the other two.
Schneider: 12 - Slightly longer posts on average than the other two.
McMillan: 11 - Well, you're slap bang in the middle of the other two.
