Robert was racking through his brain trying to think of things to do. "well, it is an army base so not much to do. You get any chow yet? I've been dyin' to get my hands on some roadkill with a side of crap gravy" He said making fun of how bad the food was here in particular. The sight was absolutely horrid. He explained pretty accurately, though. He hoped it would actually be something that had a different taste other than salt or just the plain lack of taste. Well if there wasn't anything good he could normally get a descent cup of coffee.
"We'll see who's all there and we'll go from there. Who knows, maybe a few fellas from your Company have some plans and we'll tag along. But kid, remember we're in the barracks now. If a Sergeant hears you not addressing me as sir, he'll have your head. Even if I stick my neck out there he'll take mine too." With that said Robert went over to where he left his coat, hat, and shotgun and grabbed each of them. He put his coat on, still wet from earlier, then his hat which was nothing but a wool cap with a small brim. When he was done he picked up his shotgun. Ah, what'do I need this fer? He set it back down and started for the door. "You comin' kid?"
I was born, a shotgun in my hands. Behind the gun, I'll make my final stand.

"well, it is an army base so not much to do. You get any chow yet? I've been dyin' to get my hands on some roadkill with a side of crap gravy" said the corpal
i replied back with "nah, no c rats yet."
i then heard him say this "We'll see who's all there and we'll go from there. Who knows, maybe a few fellas from your Company have some plans and we'll tag along. But kid, remember we're in the barracks now. If a Sergeant hears you not addressing me as sir, he'll have your head. Even if I stick my neck out there he'll take mine too." he thought goood and hard and remebered the time he didnt call some one sir. it wasnt good.
joey grabbed his gun, coat and his hekmet. leaveing everything else under his bunk. "well lets go then, sounds like a good idea eh?" they began to walk outside were the rain was hitting them, hard. joey spedded up his steps until he got to the barracks. he saw some guys from baker company just sitting around. joey walked up to them, all privates "any plans?"
the privates answered simply "yeah, nothing big, were just going out on a patrol on the borders then look for some airdrops in the east." when the corpal showed up the stood up giveing him a salute. joey shot a look at him that said, should we go?

Robert saw the men talking. Joey obviously knew them so he started talking to them. They talked about going on patrol which made Robert uneasy. He didn't like going on patrols with men from other companies, even squads. Because if one of them were to get hit he'd be screwed and possibly court-martialed for being with the wrong squad for no real reason. And if it wasn't a court-martial, it would be worse...way worse. Alot of the Captains didn't have tolerance for men who were dumb enough to get another one killed.
Robert saw Joey look at him. The look seemed to ask 'Can we go,please?' "Well you ladies have fun on yer li'l happy run and good luck to ya." After he said this he took Joey off to the side. "Kid, I love goin' on patrol as much as the next guy, but I just don't trust any Private that waltzes right out of Boot. Anyways I heard there were a few other guys goin' to a bar in town. I doubt any of the Seniors would miss us." He could already see Joey was disappointed. He obviously wanted to get into the action. That's exactly how Robert felt in Japan, that's exactly how his first wake-up call came. Robert was so anxious to kill his first nip that instead of pulling a man into cover, he decided to shoot a running Jap. He never forgot that man's scream after the bullet hit his stomach. The scream of his fellow American.
Before Joey could say anything of an answer Robert was already half way to the trucks. "C'mon boy. Catch up!"
