It had been a few days since the incident with Stephen Kaiser, the girl prisoner and he. Casper had been quite shaken up by what he had seen Kaiser do. He had made a mental note to not go near the evil Kaiser as long as he could help it. He had spent the rest of that day in the offices, typing up paper work as he had been let off guard duty. Thank goodness. He didn’t think he could cope with yet more inmates being attacked by vile soldiers.
Little did he know that a note was being penned and sent to him a few hours after the incident? It hadn’t got to him until a few days afterwards for reasons unknown. He had been sitting in the guards’ mess, eating his breakfast when it had arrived. The mail boy had handed it to him and then had exited. He was alone on the table so had opened it there and then – a note from Kaiser, requesting his presence at his office as soon as possible. Casper dreaded this and saw that it had been dated a few days ago. Odd how it had only just been handed to him – maybe someone had stopped it from being sent deliberately to spite him? Or maybe it had simply been lost. He stood up, finishing his breakfast quickly, and then headed for Kaiser’s office.
It took him a few minutes to walk there; finally he stopped at a metal door with Kaiser’s name on it. He checked his uniform just to make sure it was all in place before he knocked on the door. He was nervous, he felt his hands sweating. What did Kaiser want? Did he want to punish him for how he had acted – in a friendly manner towards the inmate by the quarry that day? He had been laughed at by his fellow soldiers when news had got round what had happened. His hand was still sore and he could still see the boot marks faintly on it.
