I suppose this is too late for this game, but perhaps if someone knows they will be unavailable to post some day, they get to put their character on "autopilot", allowing them to fight at the midnight attack, since it's not like we control our characters then anyway.
If inactive members are present at Safe-Zone(B2) then they stand a higher chance of surviving. Not just because of other survivors in the safe-zone protecting them, but inactive members can fight back on the autopilot system you mentioned Mac.
In this case, John felt unwell and was rendered useless for the entire day. If all members could go inactive and know that their characters can fight back automatically, then it would slacken the need to post daily on a regular basis. Sooo, it's a 50/50 chance that your character will fight back or could have a random event happen that would knock them inactive for the entire day (or longer even).
It's just the name of the game. You have to survive for as long as possible, everyone is going to die at some point, how long you survive or want to survive is entirely up to everyone (or just yourself) being active and making the right choices for both defence options and weaponry options. Along with the right choices for exploring the correct areas with the correct weaponry or numbers.
If members are inactive OUTSIDE of the safe-zone, then it's a bigger struggle. If members are active and choose to stay outside of the safe-zone, then it's going to be a lot harder than it would be surviving inside of the safe-zone. With or without appropriate defences in place on the safe-zone.
Put it this way, camping inside of a three-story building OUTSIDE of the safe-zone, doesn't make it any safer than staying in the safe-zone where you have no wall or towers or whatever else... Reason for that being, within the safe-zone, zombie numbers are significantly less during the horde-attack. So if you can fortify that position, you stand a much much much higher chance of surviving. Chancing it outside of the safe-zone is a lot dangerous, but if survived, you will be rewarded for it.
That all making sense? Lol. Let me put it into a list format so it's easier to explain, if you guys didn't understand what I was saying. Besides, I have explained it with the easiest way possible: Safe-zone ='s higher chance of survivial. Exploration areas ='s harder chance of survival. So that's regardless of what buildings or terrain is there.
Safe-Zone has lower zombie numbers during the horde attack and all defensive structures built, strengthen your chance of survival.
Exploration areas
[/b] have higher numbers of zombies during the horde attack and despite whatever structures or terrain is present (which may seem better than the safe-zone), it provides 0 defensive bonus.
- Only your weapon, survivor numbers and tactics will get you through the night. I never once said external structures outside of the safe-zone provides any type of defensive bonus.
[/li][li] If you're inactive and in the safe-zone, you stand a greater chance of survival. Whether you fight back or not, is a 50/50 chance - even if you don't fight back and the defenses hold up (keeping all zombies outside of the encampment), you wouldn't have needed too anyway!
[/li][li] If you're inactive outside of the safe-zone, again, it's a 50/50 chance you'll be able to fight back and with greater numbers opposed against you, the odds of surviving are rather slim. [/li][/ul]
During the next game, I'm going to touch up the rules and make the game more interactive and demanding, so members can have more of a say with their surroundings and etc -- this may limit the numbers that can take part however, drastically.
This current game is an open universal game for all members to take part and little requirement of post is needed by the members, which does take the fun out of it, but allows for more people to take part in the game. The second game may be more smaller and compact, but with greater requirements from the members taking part, hopefully making it more exciting.
I'm yet to decide on the second game's rules or whatever, but this first game has certainly ironed out some areas and helped to develop the concept of the game for future occurances! ~Danny

Might I also make a suggestion for the next game?
You should probably input a food system into the game. For example, we find a cow which would give us 8+ food. Each member must eat one food packet each day or risk the fact of dieing. If a member dosen't eat 2 days in a row, they will die of starvation.
I was going to implement food, but thought better off it, it would only make the game a little more too complicated than it needs to be...
I'm going to try and revamp the general rules so the game is more entertaining and members can post normally as they would to an RP thread. Again, like I said, this would kill the fact that the whole site could take part in, but I guess it's an option worth considering for a more entertaining zombie game maybe.
Either way, I'll have a think after this game. Besides, I want to try and get some sort of an epic battle up for everyone too. So hmm. ~Danny

Just so you guys know, I'm kinda glad I got killed off, I intended on quiting the moment I noticed John's post was voided. Which actually was before I knew I was dead.

I'm sorry If my reasons was for you to quit. Before when I was in active I was acting as a casualty for 32 Brigade in Canada. I should have said something but if its mt fault you wanted to leave then I'm sorry.

Guys, definitely build a wall or someone will die again in the night.
Also, hand axes would be a good build too. Will help you cut the timber/wood maybe in order to get more wood and build better walls. Now that you guys have some bows, you shouldn't go out scavenging until you have a wall to fight off the horde.
(Also, I bet a jabillion dollars PuNk hid a lulzily awesome weapon in C2 where no man wishes to search).

You being late on your post has nothing to do with my wishing to quit James. It was not your fault that your post came before the mod post and was still voided.

P.S. Why is it that holding someone's hand allows you to move quicker?
As Erik said, todays priority is defense. We're going to make a wall completely surrounding the three buildings at the top of the hill, big enough, but not too large which would make it hard to defend.
I'll build the wall, other jobs involve thoroughly searching the buildings on top of the hills... Sod's law say's theres going to be an MG42 or whatever in one of them.
Once we have this base set up today, tomorrow we may go back to the radio station, try and get this generator. If we can move it, great, if not, we may find some fuel at least.
Oh yeah, and Dan/Mac, if one of you wants to take the handgun, feel free. Adam/John, I'm not entirely convinced you're not zombies yet either, so you're going to be barricaded in a building again tonight. Dan, I'll leave the responsibility of barricading them to you.

Anyway like I've said before, this is a quick turn based game and its nothing serious. In fact, i made this game as a prep for something better to come. Everyone is going to die in this game sooner or later, its the first of its kind making it incredibly unfocused at times on the rules and such, but overall, its just a small exercise to get everyone up to scratch with working as a team. Who you can trust? Who even works as a team and getting your act together with communicating as a team.
So JT, please don't blame me for you quitting? John posted days after the deadline and plus, this is just a mini game to enlighten the mood before something more serious to take part in. ~Danny

This morning I realized I had put Close the Gate in my intentions, but didn't mention it in the description. I don't know if that will mess it up or not, so instead of me editing my post, how about someone makes sure the gate is locked.
And Dan can have the gun, it should be obvious I want to keep Mike as long as possible.

...nothing serious, yet he gets his post in before you get your mod up, but it wasn't on the proper day so it's voided, that's the part that rubs me the wrong way. It's nothing personal, I just don't think that makes any sense.
