Most of us know the drill, for those that do not this is where you vote for your favorite thread and member of the Summer season...or whatever season it was just a little while ago in your hemisphere.
You are only allowed to vote for one thread and one member, you cannot vote for yourself as a member, but you can vote for a thread you took part in. Usually the thread has to have ended in the time frame, but if the majority of the thread has taken place within the season I figure that's enough to vote for it as well

These thread/member of the seasons seem to be failing. I suggest throwing a prize into the mix and making this a little more enthusiastic for the members? People don't even seem to be bothering to vote, beside wanting to be the member on the front page of the site.
10CP for each member in the best thread? 20CP for best overall member? It's a seasonal thing now, not monthly, so a few CP thrown into the works shouldn't hurt - right?
If not CP, how about perks? Best member of the season gets 20% off all shop items until next season's best member and best thread gets all members 10% off or something?
If not again, then maybe best member could be promoted if military ranked or neutral ranked, have a discount of shop items and the best thread could have extra CP for all members involved?
I don't know, random ideas, but worth a thought right? - Raf

Member:Nathan. I don't really remember who was active around summer anymore and I already voted Mitzi last time. Thread: No vote. I also don't remember any prominent threads from the summer, so I'll leave this one empty.
And concerning the suggestions Raf had, I think one of the problems is that these votings happen a bit too late and people like me, who suffer from old age and dementia, have already forgotten which members and threads were active during the said season. (I mean no offence to JT, without him there would be none of these votings up, ever. )
But regarding rewards, it might not really cause people to vote more, although it would make being being voted the member of the season more desirable. And when it comes to threads being voted and rewarded, right now members can vote on threads they were part of, so this would naturally have to be changed, otherwise it would be all too easy to vote on one of your own threads to be rewarded.
I really do like "the member/thread of the season" and the changes on the front page make the site look lively and interesting, including the small news-scroller at the top, but even if it was just mods deciding which thread/member to highlight for the season, I don't think it would diminish the worth of such a title (this in the case that members do not cast enough votes.) and it would still keep the top of the main page fresh with new things happening every now and then.

Yeah, like I said, it wasn't a comment aimed at you, JT, maybe just the summer generally was very quiet, hence less people here to vote on member/thread of the summer.

I agree Dieter, I guess I'm just trying to think of ways that members will feel more encouraged to vote or be voted for. When this first started up, it was a novelty to be on the frontpage for a month or so, but the novelty has worn out since.
I guess if the staff were to highlight the top five threads of the season for both hostile and neutral threads, then put it to a vote or made a decision themselves even? It may work, perhaps. I don't know, it's tricky. I was just trying to think of ways to make being voted for or making a vote more worth while.
Anyway my votes are... Member of the season: Nathan (From what I've seen, his made a great Global Moderator since being promoted and I think that deserves some recognition)
Thread of the season: N/A I wasn't really around during the summer much so I don't have a clue what sort of threads happened, so it seems unfair to vote for something I'm not sure about. - Raf

If it wasn't for the staff hosting these seasonal tributes, then no, we wouldn't have them regularly updated and I think a lot of gratitude goes to JT primarily for hosting these website "traditions". That's both the IO Awards and the seasonal member/thread tributes. So I think, JT should have the main say on what happens with these suggestions appointed above.
Obviously it's a staff matter and most probably will be a staff discussion, taking everyone's opinions into account, but overall I feel JT deserves the best given interest in planning where these "traditions" go from here. I'll be happy to follow whatever he decides, if he thinks a prize fund is a good idea, then that's fine by me. If he thinks more should be done for the seasonal winners, then again, that's fine by me.
So Bro, this is your call. We can discuss this in the staff area if you feel it's important enough, but I'm leaving this entirely up to you. You're the front-runner for these anual events and I'll do whatever you feels best. ~Danny

Uh...wow, to start I feel all weird now...however I don't feel that a thread prize is warranted. Look at it like this, the better the thread, the better the payout is gonna be anyway. So threads that already stand out earn more for the members involved. I could see there being a small prize for member of the season though. But I'd say around 5CP, maybe 10 tops, if there is anymore I could see it turning into people taking turns to vote for one another to get the funds, and it shouldn't be about the CP, it should be about who's earned it, who's stood out among the rest of the site, not who has earned an extra payday.
But then I had another idea about the member part of this. May help with the voting as members would be encouraging one another to vote if they think they have a shot at it. And that's what this should be about, the community of IO as a whole interacting with one another. So if you like this idea bro, it's my favorite. Whoever wins member of the season gets 1CP for every vote they receive. Huh?! But only the winner would get this.
Well you asked and there you have it, do with it as you please

Your annual event now, your rules. I really like the idea about each vote being a 1CP build up for the winner. Sounds great to me and I'm sure it sounds great to everyone else too...
Like I said Bro, this is your call and I'm happy to follow your rules on this one. Made a valid point about the best thread already having being paid out and etc; over-looked that myself.
As I've saiddd! Sounds fantastic to me and I'm sure everyone else is liking the idea too. ~Danny
