The big switch began in 1943. It took well over two years for the change to take place. By the beginning of the Cold War, most troops had the insignia. Of course, there is always the chance that I'm wrong. What sites have you seen the insignia on? I'd like to see them.

Wiki commons is where I have the current ones from.
Google Soviet insignias, and there are lots for renactors. Also, just look for Soviet WWI infantry or soldiers and they will be wearing shoulder rank slides.
