The big switch began in 1943. It took well over two years for the change to take place. By the beginning of the Cold War, most troops had the insignia. Of course, there is always the chance that I'm wrong. What sites have you seen the insignia on? I'd like to see them.

Wiki commons is where I have the current ones from.

Google Soviet insignias, and there are lots for renactors. Also, just look for Soviet WWI infantry or soldiers and they will be wearing shoulder rank slides.

This has been a bit of a torn, but I've found a place with fairly comprehensive list of all rank insignia.

Here's the service dress insignia for the Wehrmacht:

No worries! Sorry if it looks a little big, with all the black and dark-green, it was pretty undetailed when resized any smaller.

Anyway, sorry they wasn't added sooner, I didn't even notice there were people outstanding for rank insignia in this thread.
