Mission Two:
Raid on Rocherath Battery
08:30, 18th December 1944
Rocherath, Belgium
Light Snow, North Easterly Wind 6knts, Temperature: -4ºC
Overview:
The Germans finally managed to push past the small group of defenders holding the crossroads, and on towards the battle further down the road, in the villages of Krinkelt and Rocherath. But three large 155mm Howitzers are pounding the villages, and costing the Axis forces dearly. A small group of men has been sent to capture the guns, and destroy the garrison is holding them.
Map:
Like in Epic Battles, the map will not be edited, so be descriptive with your posts. If you wish to send an edited map to the Mod-marker so your location, feel free. This develops an air of tactics and a fog of battle.
Objectives:
Allies:
1. Do not the church be captured, and the FO inside to be killed or captured. OB 1
2. Do not let the munitions dump be captured. OB 2
3. Do not let the guns be captured. OB 3
Axis:
1. Seize the church, and kill or capture the FO inside the bell tower. OB 1
2. Capture the munitions dump. OB 2
3. Capture the guns at all costs. OB 3
Special Rules:
1. All Axis troops have been equipped with white camouflage smocks, but they are a double edged sword. They mean they are harder to see by the enemy, but also harder to see by their commander. They do not count as winter clothing.
2. The Artillery Cadets manning the guns are unarmed, but must stay close to the guns at all times.
3. The FO in the bell tower is directing the artillery fire, through a bulky radio set. He is armed with a Colt 1911, and cannot leave the bell tower.
4. The Axis troops appearing at POINT 5, have scaled the cliff with hooks, and are wearing climbing gear. They will appear in the second round of posting, and cannot be seen or shot at in the first.
5. There is a convoy truck parked by the dump, which is used to ferry shells to the guns. It can only carry two units, because the rear is filled with shells, and will be very slow moving. There is no crew, so either side my use it. God help if it is shot...
6. If the dump takes to many shots, the whole dump could explode, covering the map in a blast wave. There is a 85% of KIA if that happens. Do not hit it!
Players:
The battle is two Axis players vs. two Allied players. The Allied players must bring no more than 13 NPC units. The Axis must also bring no more than 13 NPC units. There is a lack of tanks on the Allied side at the moment, and the Axis are trying to creep up undetected. No vehicles may be used, except the truck located at the munitions dump.
Set Up:
1. Allied player 1 will set up with four NPC Units in the church, forming a squad. POINT 1
2. Allied player 2 will set up with four NPC units to the west of the munitions dump, forming a squad. POINT 2
3. Five NPC units will set up in the southern trench, forming a squad. POINT 3
1. Axis player 1 will appear with nine NPC units at the Southern end of the road, forming two squads. POINT 4
2. Axis player 2 will appear with four NPC units, to the north of the ammunition dump. See Special Rule 4. POINT 5
Victory Conditions:
Victory will be determined by the side that completes the largest amount of their objects.
Final Battle Bonus
Allied Victory: Gain supporting artillery fire, every nine posts.
Axis Victory: Gain supporting artillery fire, every nine posts.
Designer’s Note:
What’s riding on this battle could mean the difference between victory and defeat in the final battle. The job of the Allies is to defend as best they can, and choose which strong points to defend, and is it better to leave other points to go. This battle is all about tactics, comrades, tactics!
