A squad of British soldiers have been sent to supervise the destruction of a vulnerable bridge by the Royal Engineers. Unfortunately, correspondents were delayed and the soldiers arrived sometime before the engineers. Waiting nervously for reincorcements, they are determined to stop the enemy from crossing the bridge and thrusting forwards into Allied territory. Allied players begin by the houses, Axis players in the northernmost woodlands.
Dark green is thick woodland. The blue line running across the map is a fast-flowing river four feet deep- the current is gentle enough to allow units to cross fairly comfortably. The bridge is wooden but fairly strong. The grey boxes are wooden houses, with windows and doors on either side. By the river is a three-foot deep trench and six three-foot craters from an earlier artillery attack.
Strum's mortars. I've had my sorry butt kicked with them twice before, once with Rhys as well.
Then again, considering the fact it is quite dark, I'll be foolish and agree to fight. So what are we doing for NPC's? I'm assuming if the Allies are attacking Strum and his mortars we'll outnumber you by some comfortable margin?

I we are to be attacking, I wouldn't become too bothered about the mortars. So far, they have only been used as defensive weapons, but now they will have to become offensive. Your major problem before was that you were attacking the mortar positions over open ground and with poor cover, and as you got closer, the mortars became more accurate. Frankly, you played right into my hands...
If you don't mind me saying Rhys, you've given yourself a lot of good cover and made a river crossing pretty difficult. So my mortars would be providing covering fire to the crossing party, probably lead by Mr Davidson.
I suggest that the Allied side and Davidson's forces are about equal in strength (however large you wish to make them), and then my three mortar crews will counter the bonus the Allies get from the village, craters, trench and any mines.

In the original map, a lot of the cover didn't feature. I added in the craters and he trench so that the attackers would have some cover after crossing the river. The Allies aren't benefiting from this cover so I don't really think our "advantage" needs to be countered by mortars.

You do still have four buildings, are mostly likely to mine the bridge, and you could easily rush the trench, which would make any river crossing nearly impossible. Even if the Germans were able to cross the river, we'd be so bloodied that any British counter-attack would destroy us. If you've already got wounded men, you can hardly retreat back across a moderately deep river, while being shot at, and then cross tens of metres of open ground.
I see your point about the extra cover, but unlike the buildings which will mainly be used by the British, the trenches and craters can be utilised by both sides. And while your men are sat snugly in buildings take well aimed shots, we are going to be negotiating open ground, and a difficult river. In essence, we are going to take hideous losses, and then are going to fight gruelling ratenkrieg. After all, when have you ever seen a river crossing take place without arty support?
I understand my mortars are not exactly your best friend, but they give the Germans the best chance of crossing that open ground and river. Otherwise it'll be like WWI, with us throwing a platoon of men at you, just so that five get across and are in a position to fight, and frankly I'd rather my division didn't loose tonnes of men in vain.

Sorry for the double post, but I'd like to draw a little attention. In two weeks I will be going away for ten days and won't be in any position to produce posts, so I would really like to get this battle started ASAP (in the next 24-48 hours if possible). Get my teeth into it, if you know what I mean.
Sooo... How many men do you want to bring Rhys? (I assume Freddy can meet that?) Who's going to be our mod? Who is going to start the thread?

Okay, that's fine.
You're deliberately keeping us in the dark about the special units, so I have a small proposal... You bring your special units, without us knowing what they are, and we bring our special units, without you knowing what they are... OR both sides reveal their special units here.
