Well, I guess most of you should have realized already, that in South- Africa, the FIFA- Football- Worldchampionships 2010 have just started about a week ago.
I just had a quite interesting discussion about that subject yesterday in tha C-box, and quite surprisingly to me, everyone seemed to have his own opinion about it. ;D
So here it is, the official I.O.- thread for football- fans and football- haters. What do you guys think of the World- Cup, which one is your team and how are they doing?
I guess some of you might have guessed already, I'm a GIGANTIC fan and YESH, the German team just sweeped the floor with Australia in it's first game.
Wooooohhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooo ;D

Not in it this year (stupid Henry...), but I still pay a good bit of attention and I've watched a few matches. The FIFA site ( www.Fifa.com ) has an interesting feature - Matchcast. It basically tells you whenever someone makes an attempt at scoring, or concedes a foul, etc.
Yeah, I'm an avid fan of the male catwalk. I mean game! I've been supporting Germany since the World Cup 2002 because I thought Oliver Kahn was one hell of a guy because they were awesome, of course!
And Werner, the victory against the Socceroos was a bit by default, wasn't it? ;D I think it's the Serbs you should be afraid of, true giants! And let's just not talk about Greece and a humiliating loss to North Korea (it's just because they're communists, I swear. They blackmailed us with ... a mass import of potatoes. Yeeeah.)
a humiliating loss to North Korea (it's just because they're communists,
I'm pretty sure your team lost to South- Korea, didn't it? So no blaming it on the Communists, at least not here and now. ;D
Anyway, here are some veeeery interesting facts, that I heard about the North Korean team:
- they used to prepare for the World- cup for over 1 YEAR, in a training camp completely isolated and shielded from the rest of the world - Kim Young Ill (the funny dictator of North korea) bought 1000 exile- Chinese to act as fans for his team in the stadions of South Africa. His own people wouldn't be allowed to travel there anyways. - The games are only getting shown in the North Korean tv delayed in time and ONLY if the North Korean team should win said game. So methinks, they won't have a lot to show at all. ;D

The Dear Leader of the DPRK is Kim Jong-il, son of the Great Leader and Eternal President of the DPRK Kim il-Sung, and the heir apparent to the heredity dictatorship is Kim Jong-un.
Anyway, back on topic... I must admit I am a football hater. It's simply a bunch of physically fit men getting paid waaayyy too much to kick an inflated leather sack around a marked out area of grass. It would be surprised if the average IQ of the English team got into double figures!
EDIT: I'm a North Korea nut. Something I made in my spare time. Sad, I know...
Damn you, Werner, for exposing my clever trick in just blaming it to the North (Greeks always have to blame someone else, thank you). It was a very cunning plan and you ruined it! Anyway, they still blackmailed us with potatoes and that is a fact. I also heard that North Korea wouldn't broadcast the entire games, just small portions exactly because of the regime.
And, lol, I wouldn't underestimate them, really. Worst case is they lose, and then they just pull the sticks and stones from their pockets and hit the opposing team with them. No offense, Strum.

Just like politicians. ;D (Minus the physical part, sad!)
I'm not a football fan, but when it comes to the world-cup, I'm actually quite avid about football, so all I have to say is: "C'MONNN ENGLANDDD! C'MONNN ENGLANDDD!!! C'MON ENGLANDDDD!!!"[/B] ~Danny

New Zealand went wappo the other day. We scored our first World Cup point and drew 1-1 with Slovakia. We haven't been in the World Cup in donkey's years, so it's a big thing down here

Yeah I watched that game Nathan, match was kinda' boring most of the way through, but the goal in the last three minutes by New Zealand was pretty good. Funny thing is, they wasn't playing too badly either, I think they had the most pot-shots at the goal between the two sides; but just failed to get a goal.
Andddd Werner. You won't believe how my toes curled up at that home-goal (so to speak) by the goalie' during the match. In actual fact, USA wouldn't have drawn the match if it wasn't for our silly goalkeeper. We would have won; 1:0.
But the England and USA game was pretty crap in it's self anyway. Everyone seemed desperate most of the time. England got like four yellow cards, homegoal and I dunno if you watched the match, but whenever a corner was being taken, everyone was going mad in the box running about like headless chickens. The game just seemed desperate the whole way through.
England's next game is tomorrow... I'm off to pub to watch it. ;D England V Algeria ~Danny
