Because some of us need it, some of us want it, and some of us just are curious about the English language.
~Names
Behind the Name - Large, mostly-adless archive of names. We need more variety on this website!
Names of Roma [Rombase] - Explains the naming system used amongst Slovak Roma. Useful for Slovak Roma characters, should they ever be created. I'll do a little more research to see if this extends to other Roma.
Last Names.Net - Because we needed a last name resource just as badly as a first name one. Last names, YAY! ;D
~Mary-Sue tests and explanations (reccomended for use as guidelines ONLY)
The Universal Mary-Sue Test - Rates how unrealistic and over-the-top your character is. Best used as a guideline only, but make sure to read the information prior to the quiz first.
The Writer's Mary-Sue Test - Another quiz to rate your character's unrealistic qualities, but a little stricter then the above quiz, in my opinion. Best used as a guideline, and/or another opinion on your character.
How To Avoid Making A Mary Sue - Learn how to create balanced characters that won't bring forth eye-rolling from your fellow RPers.
~Misc.
Seventh Sanctum - Full of different character generators. You may find an idea you like here.
List of Stock Characters In Military Fiction - Because, like with any story genre, there have been stereotypes beaten to death over. And over. AGAIN.
~Grammar and Terminology
200 Most Common Errors In English - What you thought you knew, and what most people tend to mix up. Highly reccomended.
A Few Common Errors In English - Probably covered in the website I mentioned above, but still good for quick reference for the smaller errors.
Writing Dialogue - Reccomended for anyone who isn't sure how to write dialogue. Includes some grammatical points that are ESSENTIAL to any RPer and/or writer in general.
Military Terminology List of Links - A list of links on Wikipedia leading to pages on military terminology and jargon. An excellent resource for those who want to give their characters another hint of realism. (Warning: some entries may contain foul language.)
~Accents
How To Make A German Accent - Pretty self-explanatory, no?
Writing English With A French Accent - The title says it all. A slightly-less informative (although still useful) page can be found here.
~Misc.
Sie und Du - "You" and "thou" in German - As Doc so nicely put it, "An article on the evolution of English in relation to German."
Wikiquote - For all your quoting needs. I got my Welsh proverb from here.
Babelfish - A popular online translator.
Multiple Language Translator - Translator with multiple languages to choose from, having more choices then Babelfish.
Google Translator - Can be a bit annoying to work with. Still, Google does it again! XD
Is This A Stereotype? | Dosta! - An informative page that helps explain stereotypes about the Roma, better known as the "Gypsies". I'm planning on making IO's first Rom, but if anyone would like to join me, I reccomend starting here if all you know about them is the Hollywood stereotype.
The Patrin Web Journal - Romani (Gypsy) Beliefs - An informative web page on the beliefs of the Roma. If you hunt around, you'll also find TRUCKLOADS of other information on the Rom.
Travellers - A website written by a man with Irish Traveller blood in his veins. The Irish Travellers are sometimes confused with the Rom, but they are a completely different ethnicity. They are an Irish minority that is also found in America.
Romanipe - The Roma Identity - A brief explanation on the Roma identity, the Romanipe.
More to come.
